Composite dental veneers are a very popular cosmetic procedure carried out at the dentist.

A composite veneer is a thin piece of composite resin sculpted and then bonded to the front of your natural teeth to correct the alignment, change the color, and enhance the shape of your teeth.

Dr. Eugene, who has been providing dentistry to the people of Mandurah for the past 20 years, will give you some 4 awesome tip on how to maintain your dental composite veneers.

Avoid harsh abrasive toothpaste

Although long-lasting, composite resin is not as hard as porcelain. And because of this, you should avoid using harsh abrasive on your composite veneers.

Abrasives such as charcoal toothpaste, smoker formula whitening toothpaste and even brushing your teeth with bicarb powder is totally out. The rough particles in these products will scratch the surface of the composite veneer, allowing staining to collect faster and lose its glossy appearance.

Stick to using regular normal toothpaste or an everyday whitening toothpaste for your everyday dental hygiene routine.

Avoid staining food and drink

Food and drink that can stain your teeth will also stain your composite dental veneers.

If you enjoy your coffee, tea, or red white, then consider drinking them through a straw or swish your mouth with water after you have enjoyed those high staining drinks.

Also, nicotine stains will build up very quickly on composite dental veneers. If you are a moderate to heavy smoker, porcelain dental veneers are a better option for you as they are more stain-resistant.

Protect them

Composite dental veneers look great but they are not as strong as your own natural enamel.

If you grind your teeth or clench your jaws, consider wearing a protective splint at night (or during the day). If you find dental splints bulky or you are not a heavy teeth grinder, ask your dentist to make a set of orthodontic retainers that can also offer some protection against accidental chipping.

Have them polished every 6-12 months

Visiting your dentist and hygienist on a regular basis is an important step to maintaining a healthy mouth. At your regular visit, have your composite dental veneers polished to remove stains and to restore their glossy surface, making them look good and more resistant to stains collecting.
